The Car Insurance Broker

An Old School Affiliate

The car insurance broker is basically an insurance company on the high street. More old school than the modern affiliate but the principle is the same.

Take A Plan insurance for example. A typical high street broker who deals with many insurance companies. The broker will usually have their own internal system to get the cheapest quotes for their customers. This makes them pretty much the same as an aggregator in theory as they too keep your details on file, many of which still use good old paper systems. They too should be regulated by the FSA.

There is no reason why a high street broker doesn't have a website, but usually the website is just a simple advert for the local area in order to get people into their establishment.

A great advantage with high street brokers is that they will haggle if your circumstances are pretty average. If you own a high performance or modified car then they will usually appear expensive and will not be able to move on price. In fact a lot of the time they won't be able to cover expensive cars - that's left to the performance car insurance company

Summary

If you prefer to deal face to face with your insurance company then the local broker is for you. Should you have to make a claim the broker will usually take care of everything.

You may pay extra for this service but I certainly tend to use a local broker for peace of mind. Try them as they will haggle and can sometimes give good discounts to others living in the same household as you by letting you share no claims bonus with family members and partners.
